This Thursday, August 12th from 6pm-8pm meet Clay artist Puck Janes at Traditions Handcraft Gallery, 2714 13th Avenue Regina
Puck Janes is a professional potter and clay artist who produces carved porcelain and sculptural ceramic landscapes in her Saskatoon studio.
“I have lived in Vancouver and Calgary, with the ocean and the mountains, but after living in Saskatchewan I wanted to express the subtle beauty of the prairie. My ceramic wall pieces and sculptures focus on farmed prairie lands, living skies, the change of seasons and the play of light over a day.”
I use a pallette of unusual glazes to decorate my handbuilt prairie landscape wall and sculptural “box” scapes. These glazes reflect the prairie: rough like the earth, glassy like the sloughs – full of subtle and intense colour. I have developed my glazes over many years of testing and use. My father was a mineral geologist and he was always showing his children the weird and wonderful world of minerals, crystals and metallics. This has been my reference for my work with clay and glazes.”
She holds a B.A. from the University of Saskatchewan and an Applied Arts Diploma from SIAST, the Saskatchewan Institute for Applied Science and Technology.
